Computerized Heat Load

Whether you need to do a heat load or if you have someone else doing the heat load, this class is for you. You learn how to do the heat load on computer software, what data needs to be entered for accurate loads and why.

We’ll be using Elite Software’s RHVAC Residential and Light Commercial program. Everyone attending the class receives a 10 day full trial copy of the software to use in the class and after.

Agenda:

  • How to start a project and selecting the right design conditions.
  • Selecting the appropriate construction material.
  • Building custom material to meet code requirements.
  • Entering the room by room data.
  • Selecting internal loads for people and equipment and finding the sensible and latent internal load.
  • Adding infiltration and duct loads.
  • Finding the net gain, net losses and CFM requirements.

The class uses a sample house and construction material common to the area.

After completing the heat load, we’ll cover the Tabular function for a Manual D duct size. Then we will review how to do a Manual S.

Anyone attending the class can call us for additional information and help on heat load calculations.

You will also learn to read Manual J Heat Load reports.

Doing a heat load using Drawing Board

2-day class -Thurs, Mar 20 & Fri., Mar 21

Drawing Board is an add-on program to Elite Software’s RHVAC Residential and Light Commercial Heat Loads. Use Drawing Board to create a drawing of the building. The room, window door and other items are smart objects with the formula for a heat load embedded. Just draw the building and the load is being done in the background.

Agenda:

  • Setting up the default information in RHVAC.
  • Overview of the drawing objects.
  • Using the Object Properties Box to find and change information
  • Step by step drawing of sample project
  • How to add a second story.
  • How to import PDF or JPG files to be used to trace over to do a quick load.

Attendees receive a full 10 day trial version of the software to use in the class and for 10 days after to review what they learned and try more things.

 

Perform a Manual D

AND get a duct drawing using MD Ductsize

Add the MD Ductsize program to Drawing Board and you not only have a drawing of the structure but you also can draw out the duct and do a Manual D calculation.

Using the drawing from the Drawing Board class we will:

  • Place supply and return main trunk into the drawing
  • Add trunks and runouts
  • Learn to build default settings for material and fitting
  • Customize sizing of trunks, runouts and registers
  • Print out the duct drawings

Learn the fundamentals of light commercial projects. Class covers life of the building issues of commercial system design such as lighting, occupants and visitors, commercial equipment (ovens, refrigeration units, computers, etc.), affect of an elevator, and more.

Alvin Daniell

Your Instructor – Alvin Daniell, B.S. MSc (Mech Eng)

Alvin earned a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Masters in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing from Washington University in St. Louis MO. For 32 years he was the owner and

managing director of Comfort Engineering Limited, an HVAC firm in Trinidad and Tobago. Alvin immigrated to the US in 2016 and now teaches at Miami Dade College. He provides engineering design and sales assistance to commercial companies in the Caribbean.

Alvin is a lifetime member of ASHRAE and a certified member of RSES.
